Welcome to Fern Creek Traditional High School Girls and Boys Cross Country and Track!

A Note From Coach McAndrew (Posted: 12/23/08)

It has been a fast start here at Fern Creek to the first month of official Track practice for the 2009 season.  We have a long way to go, but the coaches are happy with this team’s potential. There are many new-comers that are still being assessed and introduced to the sport of Track and Field. We should be deeper this year however, not as experienced.

Here are some highlights of the first month of the pre-season.

*** The girls sprint team ran cross country this fall to get stronger and in better condition for Track this spring. Every one of them has improved in all areas including attitude, work ethic, physical condition, and mental strength.  I am happy with where the ladies are at this point in terms of aerobic capacity and their conditioning.  We have a long way to go when it comes to speed, however I have no doubt that by May we will be there.

*** Most of the guys have begun practicing over the past few weeks, since football season ended.  We have a core of guys that are returning and I am happy with the new comers and excited to see what they can add to this team.  The guys will be working on their conditioning as well and picking up the volume in January so we can get them ready for speed based training later.  Again, the coaches are excited to see what these guys can do in May.

*** We are practicing over the break and have had a very good turn out.  This will give us time to get extra work in when it comes to technique, weights, and improving our condition.  Some of the team will compete indoors in January with the rest joining when they are ready, most likely around February.

I look forward to the 2009 season and the development of this Fern Creek team.

Cross Country Starts July 14 With Physicals (Posted: 7/11/08)

Cross Country practice will begin Tuesday, July 15, at 5:30pm at Charlie Vettiner Park.  Note that this is different than the midnight first practice previously announced due to construction on the track.  Also, the school is sponsoring physicals for $15 on Monday, July 14, at the large gym at Fern Creek HS.  These physicals are cash-only, no checks.  If you don’t get the physical here, then you will need one from your doctor.  Your physical from last year is good for one calendar year from when it was administered.  If you do not have a valid physical, you cannot begin working out with the team.  In this case, please still come to the first practice on Tuesday and get up-to-date on what is going on and then try to follow the schedule as closely as possible on your own until you have a physical.  The workout schedule is posted at the link above.

Track Team Post-Season Party/Awards Postponed until Mid-July (Posted: 06/25/08)

Due to a scheduling conflict, the post-season party for the track team has been postponed until next month.  A new date and time will be posted in the next few days.  Make sure you plan to attend, though, because we will have pictures, awards for regional and state qualifiers, and other goodies.  Again, it’s a pool party, so bring your swimsuit.  Please pass the word along about the postponement so that we don’t have anybody drive our to Oldham County on Saturday for no reason!  Hope everybody is having a great summer.
