Welcome to Fern Creek Traditional High
School Girls and Boys Cross Country and Track!
A Note From Coach McAndrew (Posted: 12/23/08)
It has been a fast start here at Fern Creek to the first month of official Track practice for the 2009 season. We have a long way to go, but the coaches are happy with this team’s potential. There are many new-comers that are still being assessed and introduced to the sport of Track and Field. We should be deeper this year however, not as experienced.
Here are some highlights of the first month of the pre-season.
*** The girls sprint team ran cross country this fall to get stronger and in better condition for Track this spring. Every one of them has improved in all areas including attitude, work ethic, physical condition, and mental strength. I am happy with where the ladies are at this point in terms of aerobic capacity and their conditioning. We have a long way to go when it comes to speed, however I have no doubt that by May we will be there.
*** Most of the guys have begun practicing over the past few weeks, since football season ended. We have a core of guys that are returning and I am happy with the new comers and excited to see what they can add to this team. The guys will be working on their conditioning as well and picking up the volume in January so we can get them ready for speed based training later. Again, the coaches are excited to see what these guys can do in May.
*** We are practicing over the break and have had a very good turn out. This will give us time to get extra work in when it comes to technique, weights, and improving our condition. Some of the team will compete indoors in January with the rest joining when they are ready, most likely around February.
I look forward to the 2009 season and the development of this Fern Creek team.

Due to the heat conditions, JCPS has requested that competitions begin no earlier than 7:00pm this week. Our bus will now leave school at 5:30pm and return around 8:30pm. Likewise, we have changed the start time of the Fern Creek Hokum Karem on Thursday, September 4, will now be a combined boys and girls race beginning at 7:00pm. Athletes will need to report to the park at 5:30pm.
The Tiger boys and girls teams started their regular season at the tough Clarksville Hokum Karem meet at Indiana University Southeast on Tuesday, August 26. The sophomore pair of Austin Howard and Sean Newton led the boys squad, and Victoria Mitchell and Shanice Lee led the girls. Full Summary
