Paul Hall, Assistant Cross Country Coach
Coach Hall started his coaching career in 1978 at RiversideMilitaryAcademy in Gainesville, GA.
While there, he was head cross-country coach for 6 years, and assistant track
coach or head track coach for 7 years (4 years head). His teams were very
successful, posting a dual meet record in CC of 71 wins and only 14
losses. They also hosted a cross country invitational each year,
finishing no worse than third and winning twice. While they were not
eligible to go to state, they did compete against the best competition
they could find and were generally recognized as the best cross country team in
northeast Georgia.
Coach Hall spent the late 80's coaching middle school track at BreckSchool
in Minneapolis, then moved to Kentucky in 1992. He coached at St.FrancisHigh School in Louisville
until 2001 and had success that was not measured so much in wins and losses as
in individual accomplishments. The school had never sent anyone to state
before in either sport. In his years there, the team sent someone to
state in both sports every year. The team had 10 individual or relay
state champions (indoors and outdoors), as well as many All-State
performers. Coach Hall spent one year as head boys track coach at
Kentucky Country Day and the team finished 4th in state that year. He was
assistant cross country coach at SpaldingUniversity for one year, and their
only girl runner was conference runner up and all-conference.
Cited as one of the “brightest young sprint minds at the
high school level” by numerous publications, Aaron McAndrew
is entering his third season at the helm of the Fern Creek Track & Field program
and 5th season as a head coach.Over the last few seasons Aaron has been a part of one of the biggest
turnarounds in Kentucky Track and Field history. Before McAndrew
arrived at Fern Creek the men’s and women’s teams failed to qualify a single
athlete to the KY state meet in almost a decade. It had been over twice that long since the Tigers
managed to score a single point at the State Championships.
In McAndrew’s first season as head
coach, Fern Creek not only qualified 4 female athletes on two relays at the
2007 KHSAA State Championships and earned All-State honors.Fern Creek placed a School record 23rd
in the state in 2007.
In 2007 the Men’s team qualified all three relays to the
KHSAA State Championships for the first time in school history. All three relays went on to achieve All-State
honors with the 4x100m earning a runner-up finish.
In 2008, the lady tigers finished another school record 11th
place in the KHSAA State Championships, which made them the highest place
finish of any women’s sport at Fern Creek in close to 15 years. The Fern Creek 4x100 relay won the 2008
KHSAA State Championship. (First time in school history) They recorded the
fastest time at the KHSAA State Meet in over a decade. The ladies had 6 athletes with All-State
performances.
The Men’s team finished a school record 8th in
the 2008 KHSAA State Championships while qualifying all three relays for the
second consecutive year.The 4x100m
relay broke the school record to take second place. The tigers had 12 athletes on the men’s team
with All-State performances.
In 2005 Aaron McAndrew took over
the Women’s program at his alma mater, FloydCentralHigh School
in southern Indiana. In just two seasons, McAndrew
took the Lady Highlanders to their first Sectional Championship in 16 years and
their first state ranking in just as long.In 2006 they finished 14th in the IHSAA State Championships. Coach
McAndrew was named Hoosier Hills Conference Coach of
the Year in 2006.During his two seasons
at Floyd Central two Highlander athletes signed Division 1 Scholarships and
multiple school records were broken.
